#Book Review : How To be Happy by Ruskin Bond

Happiness is ever transient. It is in moments of life that we choose to be happy or submerge ourselves in grief and sorrow. Happiness is a choice, whether we make it consciously or unconsciously.

Do we ever take a moment to feel the exact emotion of happiness? Do we frequently say, “I am happy today”? We remember the moments of happiness only during times of gloom and morbidity.

What if we could be happy every day? What if we have the power within ourselves to make that conscious decision to be happy and shun all cynicism, grief, sorrows, and anything else that brings darkness into our lives? Being happy is a habit that we need to practice in our daily lives. Happiness needs to be felt in our daily chores and appreciated every day. Then, only it will grow abundantly. But HOW?

My favourite writer of all time, Mr. Ruskin Bond, shares these nuggets of wisdom in his new book, “How to be Happy?” which was released on his 90th birthday. This is an addition to his , “How to” series. In one of the interviews, Mr. Bond says that it is a help book instead of a self-help book.

This is a great book with beautiful photographs of Bond capturing his moments of happiness, anecdotes, and experiences of his process of being happy in his daily life while he leads his mundane routine and gets on with his everyday chores.

Bond writes in snippets how he finds happiness in his daily life and what small things make him happy. He very consciously records these moments, even if they happen every day, and acknowledges them with gratitude. He highlights in this book that gratitude plays a key role in being happy.

The book has beautifully illustrated pages, and the reading process is effortless. It is a good book to take a break from the mundane moments of life and self-speculate.

Hands down, I am an ardent fan of Bond, and without any doubt, I can claim to have read most of his books. I have found joy and peace in his writing. Hence, I always seek refuge in his work. I can surely say that is my moment of happiness reading Bond. It’s a good read and I will recommend you to take a dive.

Let me know what your one moment of happiness is that you indulge in, consciously or unconsciously, every day.
